The SYFY channel will premiere the documentary Todd McFarlane, Like Hell I Won’t on Saturday, July 25 at 11PM EST. Covering early years attempting to break into the industry up to current days, the documentary will chronicle Todd’s journey from struggling artist to creating one of the most iconic comic book characters in history and his subsequent action figure line that manufactures such diverse properties as professional sports, video games, and of course the iconic Spawn.
While the trailer did not go into all the specifics regarding the documentary’s contents, the footage shown on SyFy Wire’s YouTube channel revealed enough information to suggest it would chronicle his early struggles to be taken seriously as a creator, his inability to give up when faced with rejection, to his leaving Marvel to cofound Image comics and create Spawn. Spawn debuted in May of 1992 and is still being produced near thirty years later. The comic has been turned into animated shows, a live-action film with another in the works, and multiple video games as well as action figures. In other words, from rebel to world beater.
Are you as fascinated as I am to get insight into the man behind some of the most recognizable comic characters in the industry? I’m eager to see if the documentary presents both sides or is just a glorified advertisement. Either way, this should be one fascinating can’t miss event.
