Jacob Burtenshaw is back on the Custom’s beat with an eye-catching overhaul for the Marvel Legends Vintage Wave Ice-Man. Check out a quick round-up of his thoughts on this custom below alongside some pretty awesome shots of the process.

Personally I was really excited about getting the retro wave, especially Iceman as he was easily one of my favourites when I was a kid. So to get a single card release of the original look was exciting.

However I was massively underwhelmed when I received it. It was a good figure and I could see there was a decent sculpt there but as it was all moulded in one solid colour with no paint application, the detail was lost.

I decided to give him a white dry brush with a basic white base paint from Citadel (like I did previously with my other Iceman custom) this made all the details pop and really highlighted the sculpting. However because of the pearl style plastic it still didn’t bring out the Bobby Drake I wanted.

So I mixed up some blues until I had a light icy looking blue and dry brushed this over the whole figure, a bit heavier than the white previously as to cover more of the figures creases etc, once dry I reapplied the dry brush of white.

Simple as that.
