Throughout December we’ll be showcasing work from across the community in a retrospective project dubbed “My Top 3 2018”. Ludo Opsomer (@ol_design) is up next in our series sharing his personal favourites from 2018 along with a few reason behind why he chose them. Its over to Ludo to introduce their selection :
I’ve been doing toy photography for years, but for the first time I think I finally found my way to make it, the perfect balance between practicals effects and digital edits.
I am not living in the US, but I was lucky enough to have someone to grab me a set of those amazing turtles. NECA did a very nice job with these 7″ green heroes so I tried to pay tribute to the work they did. They are so detailed, it wasn’t really hard to capture the feeling of the movie.
I finally found this year a Ford Explorer as seen in the movie (from Tomica), so it was the perfect time to redo a shot I did last year. The challenge in this new shot was to make it with all practicals effects I can do, the only thing remain was the headlights done with some edits. 3 Iron Giant
I have the Mondo Iron Giant, it’s a beautiful figure but a really big one too. It is more comfortable to me to shot smaller figure (6 or 7 inch figures) at my home, and 1000Toys released this year a smaller version of the Iron Giant this year, so I get my chance to capture the spirit of the movie “you are who you choose to be”. Also, this action figure is pretty amazing.
A huge thank you to Ludo for sharing their 2018 favourite pieces and if you want to get involved and share your Top 3 then all you need to do is email jack@Exclucollective.com with your 3 creations (toy shots, customs or dios) along with your name and a few paragraphs explaining your choices.
