Throughout December we’ll be showcasing work from across the community in a retrospective project dubbed “My Top 3 2018”. Austin Larson (@visualforce)  is up next in our series sharing his personal favourites from 2018 along with a few reason behind why he chose them. Its over to Austin to introduce their selection :

I’ve had a blast with toy photography over the past year, and I’m very honored to be able to present my three favorite shots from 2018. My interest in this hobby has really evolved in this short amount of time, but I still have so much to learn. I hope you enjoy my shots and stay tuned for more in 2019!

The bounty hunters shot was taken at the beginning of 2018. A while before this shoot, I saw a photo with the same setup, but I thought it was fan art. Right after editing, I discovered that the image that inspired me was actually one of Trevor’s (@onesix_shooter) shots. I had remembered the concept, but didn’t realized that it was a toy photograph. Anyway, I really enjoyed the setup and love how the shot turned out. Also, it would not have been possible without Atmosphere Aerosol!

Months before this Vader/Obi Wan picture was taken, I shot a scene where Anakin and Vader were face to face. In that shot, Vader was able to look at his past, while Anakin was looking into his future. I carried that concept into this picture utilizing a mirror, Photoshop, and my Spacewalls from @gtptoys. The angles and setup were tricky, but after it was all said and done, it’s one of my favorite photos.

The idea for the Patrol Troopers shot popped into my head as soon as I got one in hand. I actually only used one trooper in this setup. He was moved from one spot to another and then I stacked all eight images in Photoshop to give you this shot. The shooting and editing was slightly tedious, but I’m very happy with the result!

A huge thank you to Austin for sharing their 2018 favourite pieces and if you want to get involved and share your Top 3 then all you need to do is email with your 3 creations (toy shots, customs or dios) along with your name and a few paragraphs explaining your choices.
