MARK WALKER – Top three from SDCC 2017

Written by | Exclu Reacts, SDCC 17

What a SDCC its been and in amongst all the trailers (you’ve seen the new Thor: Ragnarok trailer right? and the Justice League one, you caught that yeah? If not go and watch them then come back, I can wait. Go on. Back and up to speed? Good) we’ve had some (OH! and the that Stranger Things trailer! How awesome does that look?!) Sorry, I digress; we’ve had some very exciting reveals for the world of collecting and photographing toys and hell if that aint what we specialise in at Exclu! So without further ado, here are my top three toy reveals from this year’s Comic Con.

Sideshow Mythos Obi Wan Kenobi 1/6 Scale Figure.

This is a figure I’ve been waiting for for a long time… a long time. When Sideshow revealed their Mythos Ben Kenobi statue five years ago it was something that just sparked my imagination. The image of a younger Sir Alec Guinness (or a slightly older Ewan McGregor depending on which head you decided to pop on his shoulders) wandering the Dune Sea, parts of his armour from the Clone Wars on his back with both his and Anakin’s Lightsabers hanging from his belt was one that truly bridged the trilogies for me. The statue looked amazing. Then this happened. Sideshow once again seem to have worked their magic and created a pretty much perfect recreation but of course with their incredible articulation and head sculpt skills. All I’m hoping is that they know something we don’t, and Mr McGregor is currently going through some makeup trails to age him up and practicing his Krayt Dragon calls… this IS the stand alone movie we’re looking for Lucasfilm!

Hasbro Black Series 6” Dewback and Sandtrooper

This is just – WOW! Im sat typing this trying to measure with my hand how big this thing is going to be like some over excited fisherman! To have a 1/12 scale Sandtrooper sat on his back this thing is going to be pretty damn huge and aside the obvious leg joints (which I’d say are an inevitability if you want decent articulation in your figures) the mighty reptilian stead of the Imperial Navy whilst trying to find the droids they’re looking for looks great! A huge aspect of the Star Wars Universe that Hasbro has shown real skill for recreating has been the creatures, aliens and general scum and villainy of the galaxy and this guys looks to be no exception. Will this be another convention exclusive akin to Luke and his Landspeeder? We’ll just have to wait and see (Which on a side note I still can’t understand the high price point of – ever since the XP-38 came out, they’re just not in demand!)

Hot Toys 1/6 Thor Ragnarok line

Man am I looking forward to this movie, and once again the guys at Hot Toys have out done themselves with what I’m sure will prove to be their usual out of this world quality, with sculpts worthy of the Gods themselves and rather smashing articulation. I didn’t think Id be as excited for this movie as I am, but this seams to be a real bridge between The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy before Infinity War kicks off next year (especially if you’ve read the rumours about that secret trailer shown at D23 last weekend… but hush, hush, wink, wink, say no more!) and theres some very satisfying about that. We were treated to the prototype images of Loki, Hela, Hulk in all his Gladiatorial glory, Valkyrie, and of course the titular God of thunder himself, again doing his Gladiatorial armour and sporting his kicky new summer hair do. All had Hot Toys’ usual top quality finish and along with the aforementioned trailer, were just enough to wet all our appetites further for the movie!

So there you go, my top three toy reveals from SDCC 2017. Keep an eye on the site and our IG and Twitter feeds – both @exclucollective –  for the rest of the team’s picks and in the mean time let me know what got your heart all aflutter and made you go weak at the knees from this years Comic Con reveals by leaving a comment below or by hitting me up on IG or Twitter – both are the rather imaginative @markwalkerphoto – Cheerio!
